Dear Doggie Rescue Supporter,

What sort of week have you had?

During the past 7 days, around 700 dogs have lost their lives at 14 council pounds across Sydney.

Yes, that is the average number of dogs destroyed in any typical week.   Most are under 18 months old – just babies.

They await their fate in a concrete cage.  They want to live.  They are full of hope that someone will come and take them home.  Who knows what they are thinking as they are led away to be destroyed by lethal injection.

Dealing with this reality is pretty gruelling, week-in, week-out at DoggieRescue.  We cope because there is a high-point; every week we go and collect a small but worthwhile number of these helpless creatures and give them a second chance.

For the volunteers and I, life at DoggieRescue is pretty miserable right now.

The post-Christmas dog dumping season has been in full swing.  The shelter at Ingleside is full.  So are all our regular foster homes.  Every day I receive calls from council pounds asking me to rescue "special cases".

Right now the answer is "I can’t".  It breaks my heart knowing this means a dog is about to lose its life – no matter how loving, no matter how worthy.

You Can Help

Every dog placed in a foster home, means another dog saved from the pound.  It is that simple.
Fostering is not a life time commitment – it is an act of love by sharing your home for a few weeks or a few months.   DoggieRescue continues to cover any medical costs and searching for a forever home.  The doggie learns to love, live and play again.

There are 26 dogs on my Priority Foster List.  They are desperately in need of "time out" in a caring home environment.

Finding foster homes for these doggies will create the space for us to save 26 lives – and I want to achieve this by Easter.

There are lives to be saved – please become a foster carer now!

For details call the shelter from Tues – Sun on (02) 9486 3133 or visit www.doggierescue.com/fostercare.htm.

Thank you from the Doggies,
Monika

Many of the 26 dogs on my Priority Foster list are older and will cope with being “home alone” during normal working hours.

Ethan

Tiny little Ethan is looking for a foster Mum or Dad.  He is 8-months old and weighs in at only 3.5kg – barely a lap full, but look at those eyes!  Can you believe he was on death row?
